You will need to take plenty of warm clothes. Germany in January will be very chilly. The temperature will normally be in the middle to upper 30sF or 2 to 4C. Also bring good walking shoes that will keep your feet dry as there is a good chance it will be wet. Make sure to have hats and scarves too. Germany tends to have a damp kind of cold in the winter which is sometimes more uncomfortable than a colder drier climate. Regardless though if you bring warm clothing I am sure you will have a wonderful time.

Bring clothing as if you were visiting Chicago or New York. Most of Germany is cold and damp around that time so layered clothing is the best. Nice warm knit hat, good gloves and a scarf would be a must. Much more fasion concious then in the USA. If you are going up into the Alps ensure you have nice sunglasses and pick up some high SPF sunscreen.

It's cold in Germany in the winter but it really depends on where in Germany you will be traveling. Take boots and clothes you can layer ie... shirts, sweaters and sweat shirts or fleese are good. Hat and warm gloves are necessary. I lived in Germany for 4 years and there can be lots of snow and rain in the winter. Janurary is usually very cold. Have a great trip and travel safely.

That depends on where you live in America as to whether or not it's colder. Where I was last year (in Bavaria) hovered around freezing, and they didn't get much snow. Take some layers, dark shoes (they don't generally wear white tennish shoes, for example) and sweaters. Germans tend to dress more nicely than Americans - no pajama pants or sweat pants, for example. Take care not to bring too much with you, since some hotels have no elevators and you'll have to carry your bag up the stairs. If you take too little, it's not the end of the world - they have some nice stores that aren't overly expensive and do take credit cards.

That's a stupid idea. I live here. It is very cold, so you need a lot of warm clothes and it is seldom shining the sun. The most time could it rain and just sometimes we have snow. Think about it and come better between may and august.
