the book "girl,interupted" for her birthday and she loved it. i want to get her something similar,short and interesting.

I think your girlfriend would love "Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe" by Fannie Flagg. The novel is best, and I have included the link below. It's romantic, witty, original and a cracking good page-turning read.
The DVD starring Kathy Bates is also enjoyable, but was substantially altered for the screen. If you get her the book there are even some tasty recipes in the back, quite a few of which I have made, which your girlfriend could make you as a thank you for the present!
If you read the reviews on the link, you will notice that not only are they all very positive, but they are all by women. It's a very heartwarming girly read, but without being maudlin - it's both funny and macabre in places, and very perceptive of human nature. If your girlfriend likes an exploration of the human soul, and how people can change, she will love this novel.

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - either book or DVD
Similarly themed to what she just read. The Ken Kesey novel is short enough and an excellent read and the Milos Forman film starring Jack NIcholson is considered an all-time classic.

A walk to remember is a wonderful movie and book , both of them made me cry.

get her the DVD "a walk to Remember." it is the best romantic movie that will make you cry at the end.
get it for her and then watch it together at night. lovely!
