Hard to answer, since I don't know what you already know. She was raised as a Quaker. When the White House was set on fire by British troops during the War of 1812, she rescued important papers and the Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington.

I don'y know what you already know but here are a few i can remember...
She was born a quaker and was expelled from the religion for marrying outside her faith.
When the Brits were threatening Washington in 1812 she stayed in the White house and helped with the removal of important documents. She also insisted on removing Washington's protrait and taking it with her for safekeeping.

She was born in North Carolina and spent her childhood in Virginia; her father was a plantation owner who, in accordance with his Quaker beliefs, eventually freed his slaves. He then sold his plantation and moved his family to Philadelphia, a place which was much more congenial to Quakers than Virginia.
Her given name was Dorothea, and her maiden name was Payne.
She married a lawyer, John Todd (a fellow Philadelphian), and had two sons; her husband died, I believe, during one of the epidemics of yellow fever.
She was "read out of meeting" for her marriage to James Madison.
And, by the way, she DID spell her name "Dolley."
