Why is it that when someone says"I hate the french, they stink, they dont bathe often",nobody standing near will call them a racist? But if the same people are standing there when someone says"I dont like black people, they stink and are ghettofied morons",they are now racist? Isnt racism racism? Same thing with the polish, people say their stupid and slow or "cheap jews",you get the point, but everyone nearby wouldnt care. Just curious.

I often cannot tell whether the person asking a question is serious or just trying to make a point. Both are good, after all that is what this forum is all about.

I am white, male and have lived in very many places, both at home and abroad. In foreign countries the prejudice is usually aimed at Americans, not just “whites”. Prejudice is usually a result of discontentment within a community that feels it has been slighted by another group of people different from themselves. The injury may be real or imagined, it doesn’t matter, and perception is truth.

It is very easy to blame others for our own failings, easier still if “our” community of similar backgrounds agree. The more ignorant a person or community is, the more potential for racism exists.

Most people of European descent that live in this country have now grown up with these “facts” being beaten into them. I can remember learning about racism by watching the news when I was six and then later by looking out my window while living in Mississippi in the mid ant late 60’s. I was taught, as every other white kid around me, that racism is wrong, that somehow my forefathers (who were Irish) harmed all of the blacks and that we must now make it up to them (White Mans’ Burden). People who make their living inciting racist feelings of discontentment, like Jesse Jackson, play off of these feelings within the white community while inflaming a feeling of inequality in their own followers. The White community could never get away with having an American Caucasian College Fund or a White Mans Organization for Equality within a company, both would be considered exclusionary and prejudicial, however both exist for Blacks and are upheld by the White community.

Most non-white races have not been brought up that way. They have been taught that it is they who have been harmed and that if a white person calls them an ethnic slur or makes an objectionable remark that it is paramount to murder. The white person just sees it as somebody venting some anger or frustration, we don’t like it but I would rather someone call me names than shoot me. It is all a matter of which perspective you where taught as you grew up.

One last reason is that the white community is very loose. I am of Irish and Scandinavian descent, some of my distant ancestors were Norse (Vikings during the 1200’s) but to most different ethnic groups I’m not Irish and Scandinavian, I’m just white but to other Europeans I am Irish and Scandinavian and if they are French or English or German then we have no commonality. Most minorities, ok this will exclude most of the Asians that I have known, bind together as a homogonous group. The Hispanic is Hispanic not a breakdown of their ancestry, the same with the Black. Blacks from Nigeria do no separate themselves from Blacks from Nairobi, at least where ethnic slurs from the white man come in. There is strength in numbers.

All in all, the person that is making broad sweeping remarks about a nation of peoples is the one who should be pitied, as they have not the knowledge to express themselves and their frustrations in any other manner.

Because there are no French people around. And if there are any white people with French backgrounds they don't know it and they are bashing themselves! Or they could know so they think it gives them the right to bash them, like if a African American person was bashing Africans a white person wouldn't feel like it was their place to say anything. Maybe it is the same thing. I just wish everybody would forget about color and stop being so hateful. Where is the love yo ♥

In my opinion all those points are racist.

I believe racism exists because we let it exist. The next time someone makes a racist comment, what do you think would happen if you told them it's a racist comment and you don't appreciate it? They would probably laugh at you...but make them pause and think about it. The next time, they would probably not make a racist comment. It's a variation of pay it forward. We should all strive to wipe it out. Not only during the holiday season, but all year round.

Happy holidays to all of you.

Well that wouldn't be the case if white people didn't already have a history against black people in this country. White people use racism against blacks to oppress them and make them feel inferior. When someone talks about a french person, their intention is not to oppress that group of people.

I agree with Dana A. Some blacks, hispanics, ect. are more racist than white people. I'm white, and I'll talk to you and be nice to you no matter what country/ethnic group you come from.

Because some people want to believe that only white people are racists. Which is far from the truth. And most people of all races are racists they just don't admit it.

I think everyone gets offended. So, just to be on the safe side, never amuse yourself at someone else's expense. It's up to you to be accountable for your own actions and make the world a better place to live in.
