I think the Harry Potter books are so popular because the writer created a whole other world in a very appealing way. Many other famous books do the same thing like The Hobbit, Imajica, The Odyssey and The Gunslinger series. The Harry Potter books are also well written. These are kids books and If you can get a kid to love reading you open up a whole new world for them. They are also fairly new and some people assume that older classics have already been read.
This is kind of mean but there are allot of people who can't read well out there. So, books like Harry Potter are wonderful for them because they are written for children and are easy to follow. I am an avid reader. I read anything and everything and I loved them.
To jazzy trey
P.S. How can people be so stupid to think that kids shouldn't read books that have ideas in them that might be different than their own values. The world is full of ideas that are all different. How about teaching your kids tolerance. By the way some people think that jazz is the devil's music.

I like the series. The books are popular, but they aren't my favorites by any means. I have read many a better book. However, like a previous poster stated Rowling brought forth creative and innovative ideas. Quidditch, surreal creatures and places, etc etc. Personally, my favorite book was the first and third. I sense a decline in Rolwing's writing. The sixth book was not that great. The fifth book was too whiny.

Well, I'm a Harry Potter fan, and I read the books because they are fun. I'm an adult and I read a lot of serious material. Reading doesn't have to be a chore, it doesn't have to enrich and enlighten. Sometimes its just an escape.
Harry Potter books provide that, and mystery and suspense. Its all good.

Because it is a good series. I loved the books, they were fun, imaginative, and interesting. The story line is great, it keeps your attention and it has good highs and lows. JK Rowling does an amazing job of making you feel like you are right there in the book.
It is NOT PROMOTING WITCH CRAFT!! I have read all the books and have not gone out and tried to turn anyone into a pig, or tried any other kind of "witch craft."

Harry Potter is extremely popular and it is a great book that does not promote witchcraft, and portrays good and evil extremely well along with the complications of a teenage life. It is great for the imagination.

The plot is very good. If you were to take out all the witch craft, the magical stuff, and change a few things, there's a story some might relate to. A young boy just trying to survive and kill the man who murdered his parents. It's a story of revenge, survival, love, and friendship. Who doesn't want that in a book? At least that why I read them.

I read the first 6 HP books. They were okay.....a few groundbreaking ideas, like quidditch, but for the rest, well....just okay. Quick, light...perfect for a vacation or a day at the beach, rainy-day type reading.
I think people always refer to them because they are wildly popular, esp. after the movies, originally written for children but all the rage with adults, also. Though, at more than 300 pages, I can't see how the author still says they are children's books!

I love Harry Potter. It is not as childish as some people think. It is interesting, exciting, funny and keeps your attention all the time. The books are far better than the films.

Because to those of us who read the books, we don't think there ARE any "better" books around. It's a matter of taste and what speaks to you. The stories are imaginative, the characters are real and personable, and Ms. Rowling has a great talent. The stories strike a chord for the readers who love them--we can relate or find similarities to our own lives or aspects of our lives.
