Which one is better? A Gigabyte mainboard or an Asus one?
Also tell me about the differences between AMD & Intel...which one is better to use?
Thanks

Both Gigabyte and Asus make excellent motherboards. Look for one that has the feature set you want, read reviews, and then compare prices to make you decision.

Between AMD and Intel....Well it depends on what you are looking for. If you want the fastest and are willing to pay for it the Core 2 Duo by Intel is the best. It is amazing in almost any benchmark.

If you are looking at lower end chips then I would go with AMD. Up till the Core 2 Duo, AMD was king of the hill in desktop applications.

Stay away from Semperons and Celerons. I really do not believe you are getting the best bang for your buck here. Yeah certain series of these chips can be pushed pretty far with over clocking and what not. Still they usually have less cache or disabled features.

I like Asus motherboards. They are compatible with pretty much anything. I rarely ever see problems with them.

AMD...Intel...they both work. I tend to lean towards AMD as they usually have the most bang for the buck. I've used AMD processors back to 386 PC's and never had a problem.

The key question to ask is how "upgradable" you want you system to be.

I personally bought an ASUS board with an AM2
CPU slot for one reason only ..... it will accept quad-core processors from AMD once they hit the market.

Intel, on the other hand, like to design a new socket for every newly architectured CPU.

Either will get you going! I prefer ASUS.

Get a P4 if you can afford it!

AMD's will work also if you see one you like.
