A geek is a term used to describe people who spend a large amount of time on computers. A geek is therefore usually someone who knows a lot about computers and the Internet, and is a very useful resource to find on the World Wide Web. In certain social circles, a geek is seen as an "un-cool" and "sad" individual who should spend more time socialising and having a good time.

A geek (IPA: [gi:k] is an individual who is fascinated, perhaps obsessively, by obscure or very specific areas of knowledge and imagination, usually electronic or virtual in nature. Geek may not always have the same meaning as the term nerd. The Merriam-Webster definiton is "1 : a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake 2 : a person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked 3 : an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity

They are saying you are unusual in some way and they don't mean it nicely, they mean it meanly. 75 years ago most circuses and carnivals had a set of attractions called geeks: bearded ladies, oddly deformed people, exceedingly short people, animals with deformities, that kind of thing. Over time, that went away as we have honed our sensibilities to be much more decent toward each other. (The modern equivalent, perhaps, is those caught-on-cam TV shows — but at least those people often did something stupid, not just were born with handicaps.)

So they are saying you are unusual in some way — in the kind of way a man with only the left side of his face would be. It's mean to you and pretty nasty to anyone with a real handicap of that sort who hears it and knows what it means.

Sometimes a friend will say it, maybe with a laugh, to chide you or more fully express him/her-self about something you are doing or wearing. I wouldn't take such a thing badly! Unless I really liked the sweater...

Very smart, book smart people stupid on the nerdy side. Not a compliment but then again, those who say that to someone, is usually ignorant, and jealous of the person's intelligence, so if I were the person called a geek, I wouldn't be offended, I would take it as a compliment. That would blow them away. Hope this helps you.

Interested more in something else other than them. But,as the others said, a person who is into computers. It can be a compliment, or not, depending on how it is used and how it is perceived.

Its pretty much a way of saying "You're so smart that it's weird"
But they're usually thinking "They're so smart and I'm so not, so I'm gonna make them feel crappy"
