I am wondering if you were married and then divorced. Then you marry someone else and get a divorce from him, too, can you take back the former husband's last name?

Miss Lovely marries Mr. Nice and gets a divorce.
Miss Lovely then marries Mr. Insecure and gets a divorce.
Can Miss Lovely take back the name of Mr. Nice.

Reason: She just likes the last name.

Scott,
Ms. Lovely didn't divorce Mr. Nice. Mr. Nice divorced her. It's a long story--just giving bits and pieces would put the fault on either/or. It was the fault of both. His for being hard-headed and hers for running from the problem, instead of seeking help. Both were at fault for the divorce--and no one is innocent.

Yes. If you can convince a judge that you should be able to. In order to change your name, you must present your reason to a judge and he or she will decide if the name change is to be permitted. 99.9% of the time they say yes. Usually it is only denied if the new name is determined to be harmful, obsene or infringes upon a trademark. I would be shocked if a judge would not allow Ms. Insecure to become Ms. Nice again.

Yes-whatever name you want to use must be put in your divorce agreement, because when you go to change important documents like drivers' license and SS card, you have to have a court order.

You can change your name to Mary Sue Allen if you want.
You just have to file the Change of Name papwerwork with your state.

The lawyers that handle your divorce cases can work out your change of name.

If you do not want a man anymore and leave him, what gives you the right to want his name, money or anything else you might have enjoyed with him. I think if you throw away a relationship you should have no privileges of that person. Are you that self centered?
