I think it is ok for both married men and women to have friends of the opposite sex. However, I can see why some women tend to be a little annoyed with their husband having a female friend. Sometimes women feel that any time their husband talks in detail about his life, feelings, or relationship with another woman, then he is bonding with that woman on an emotional level instead of with his wife. Some women tend to feel more threatened by the closeness of a friendship relationship than if he was cheating on her. They view that friendship as cheating. It can work both ways though. Ultimatley, it comes down to trust, like so many other things in a marriage. If both people trust each other, they shouldn't be concerned whent their husband/wife hangs out or chats with their friends, whoever they are.

I really think that it's ok for a husband or wife to have a friend of the opposite sex as long as it stays just that, a friend and nothing more. If your friend wants nothing more than a friendship with another woman and is no way interested in her emotionally, then tell your wife this. She should really have no buisness trying to tell your friend who he can and can't be friends with.

I personally think it is ok for a wife to have a male friend.
I also think it is ok for a husband to have a female friend.
As long as each friendship doesn't go any further than a hug I see no problem with it.
And as long as the husband and wife know they will not cheat with that person.

It is a double standard. But most double standards work out to the guys advantage. Like sleeping around makes a girl a ho and a guy a stud. If the house is messy and both people work, guests will still see it as shame on the woman rather than man, even though she works.
So the females get this one.

If my husband had a female friend it would be ok as long as he didnt try to hide her from me. I have a male friend and we all hang out sometimes. If my husband couldnt invite her over and we all hang out, then I wouldnt be too happy about it.

I believe it is completely fine for either of them to have a friend of the opposite sex, as long as when you hang out together, you have your husband or wife with you. The bible says to avoid the appearance of evil. So if somebody's wife is hanging out alone with a member of the opposite sex, it may be purely innocent and platonic, but from a distance, it doesn't look that way to other people. That's how rumors get started like "I saw her with another guy... she's having an affair." And that may be as far from the truth as possible. So that's why you should always have your husband or wife with you when you hang out with your friends of the opposite sex.

there isn't an issue EXCEPT when evidence starts showing that someone isn't playing fairly and wants more out of the friendship. my husband screamed that he wanted female friends and would then lie when i asked about them. i didn't care that he had them, but when he became deceiving about them, then i feel that something else is happening or about to happen. most times too women are not looking to load up their notches on their belts of who they have done. i said most of the time. i don't know.... men are from mars women are from venus. just go with that.

My husband doesn't like me having male friends unless I was friends with them before the marriage.Same goes for him. He's in the military so for him to find new "girlfriends",he'd to be actually out looking for them. And wives complain about everything. That's our job. :)

I have a female friend who is also friends with my wife. She basically said a similar thing to me not long ago. She said, "please don't take this the wrong way but Chris you have a beautiful heart." I used the same line you have but that's the way she put it so I wouldn't and my wife wouldn't take it the wrong way.
