Kirsty McColl (daughter of Ewan McColl) died in a horrific drowning accident with a speedboat.
Kate Bush is alive and well. I'm not a huge fan but she has an unique style and I feel that 'Wuthering Heights' is one of the best musical evocations of the spirit of a dramatic novel in a pop song - when she sings "wuthering" you can imagine Kathy seeking Heathcliff on the Yorkshire moors.

Nope she's alive and well and released an album last year called Aerial.

On the hounds of love album, the second side is entitled "The Ninth Wave, (title is taken from a poem by Tennyson) Each track tells the story of a woman who is lost at sea, facing death by drowning, and the tortured night she spends in the water. That maybe where you got the drowning idea.(?)

Catherine "Kate" Bush (born 30 July 1958, Bexleyheath, Kent, now part of Greater London), is an English singer-songwriter with an expressive three-octave vocal range.[1] She was born to an English father and an Irish mother.[2] Bush is known for her eccentric, idiosyncratic, literary lyrics; and eclectic and meticulous musical and production style. She debuted in 1978 with the surprise hit "Wuthering Heights", which was number one in the UK music charts for four weeks. While this was the height of her UK singles chart success, she has achieved considerable album sales throughout her career.

I think you are probably getting mixed up with Kirsty MacColl (fairytale of New York with the pogues) she was run over by a speed boat and died

She is not dead. What you most likely heard was words from "The Ninth Wave', a song about a woman who is lost at sea with the fear of drowning.

Definitely not dead. She released a new album last year.
Apparently she's a very private person, she took a lot of time out to raise her kids outside of the limelight.
