OK Harveymac disregard the illiterate few and think about your question. It involves action. Doing something. Whether it is good or bad matters not. That is a different question and will bring about different answers. AA is a process. It involves recognizing that a workforce does not represent a population. For example, a city has 50% African American in its population. Yet the police dept. of 500 only has 10 black officers. An "affirmative action" would be a strategy to make the police work force come closer to the population it protects.
Don't listen to those who judge whether it is good or bad. Figure that out separately. Almost every public employer has an affirmative action plan or strategy. Ask at your local town hall and they will be glad to give you a copy. Many private organizations also have an AA plan. They however may not be required to by law.
Good luck

“Affirmative action” means positive steps taken to increase the representation of women and minorities in areas of employment, education, and business from which they have been historically excluded. When those steps involve preferential selection—selection on the basis of race, gender, or ethnicity—affirmative action generates intense controversy.

It is when a minority group is given preferential treatment during the hiring process. Example you have an opening at your business you have 2 canidates one is well qualified and not a minority, the other is not so well qualified and is a minority. Affirminative action says you hire the not so well qualified canidate just because they are a minority. Look at the links as well.

Alot of people think that is something that was designed for African-Americans and Latinos to get job preferences over their White counterparts but in small terms it is specific actions in recruitment, hiring, upgrading and other areas designed and taken for the purpose of eliminating the present effects of past discrimination, or to prevent discrimination.
