We have gotten 3-4 depending on the Honda engine in that particular car. Never done one for more than 400 with the belts included on "any" car ever. They are not a very hard job, but are time consuming and it is time you are mostly paying for. Still the 650 is a bit of a rip to me and I have been doing this most of my life. Get some more estimates from other shops, or if you are mechanical and have good tools get the manual from the library and do it yourself. With the exception of taking the main Harmonica balancer bolt off there are no special tools required over regular sockets and wrenches, and the normal stuff on that vehicle.

That is right. My 97 Honda Civic timing belt cost about $500, 6 years ago at the Honda Dealer. I ask for the timing belt package, which replaces the timing belt, alternator belt (drive belt?), air compressor belt, power steering belt and the water pump. Make sure all of the belts, and the water pump are replace at the same time. I cannot do it because I need a special tool.

RE: How much does a timing belt replacement cost on a honda civic? I have a 1998 Honda Civic lx. I have 185,000 miles on it and have been told multiple times that i should have the timing belt replaced. Does anyone know how much that generally costs? There is a place here that says that the price starts at $199. Let me know your thoughts!!! Thanks!

it has a manual tensioner so it doesn't take as long as other models. Check with some performance shops. it should be between 350 and 475
