Not much is really known about parallel time lines and other dimensional worlds, could the dreams of fantasy writers and others perhaps be visions of another reality or an alternate dimesion?

I do not believe so. The chemical DMT has a large part to do with the dream state.

I think our dreams are abstract symbols of things relevant to our lives. The reason I don't think they're a 'window' into another world is because people have reoccurring dreams and dreams which are largely based on events from the day.

If you would like to read up on what the implications of multiple dimensions really are, look into string theory and the existence of a Calabi-Yau space within every point of our 3 dimensional world.

I have spent time in the past wondering that very same thing, but what I believe is in most cases your dreams are merely your subconscious at work, like if you watch a movie right before bed sometimes factors of the movie will find their way into your dream. Another thing your susconscious does while you sleep is make play of some of the thoughts that run through your head while your awake, such as something you've always wanted to do and maybe think about alot, or something that worries you in life, and then at other times your subconscious will just go nutts so to speak and you'll have dreams that seem so real that you almost believe that it would have to be a parallel world or something out side of your own thinking. Then in some cases not as many though people will have a dream that seams so real and plagues them ( by plagues I mean they will have this dream over and over again ) and not know why sometimes it will involve them or someone they know, in other cases it may be someone they've never meat and have no knowledge of, but in these cases whatever the dream is about it ends up comming true.
These dreams are known as profetic dreams and more people than you might think have them, and they often give a warning but the sad thing about it is just like most paranormal experiences they are laughed at , shruged off, and far too often not taken seriously.

I have always suspected as much. I believe that there is so much that we do not understand about time and space, and the theory of infinite realities appeals to me in a logical way. If doors, or maybe windows, into parallel time lines, or perhaps universes that are slightly out of phase with are own, are possible, then it would make sense that we wouldn't really understand what we we're perceiving. maybe that's what dreams are all about.

Dreams but are a window to another realm that enables you to see that person, object or yourself in that matter in another dimension. One that you can control for example once i swore to myself to remember if its a dream try to control it and my next dream was about a hurricane and the lady from the grudge and i rememerbed and beat the livin crud outta both.

I like to think that all of the hundreds of choices we make in a day have their own separate realities. That the energy existed to make them almost happen and the corresponding changes to my world are infinantly reflected thusly.
I especially feel that way about old boyfriends and stupid bosses that fired me. Kind of like a where would I be if I weren't here thingy.

I would really like to think so but I also think there is alot of subconciousness going on in dreams as well. It's up to us to sort thru the trash and the other realms. I believe I have been there before but it is far and few between.

Of course, wise meerkat... and we have Paradise on Earth right now... only we've filled it so badly with rubbish, that we only see rubbish (wars, slaughterhouses, evil scientists, painful hospitals built not to cure but to experiment with patients... most of them...). But that parallel world, of course is here too... and we could make this Earth planet a wonderful place... it has the potential... and when I watch it through my alien telescope, I can see a meerkat that looks exactly like you, dancing around asking Socratic questions... :-) Good thoughts! :-)

So little is known about parallel time lines that NO ONE knows if they even exist.
So, engaging in speculation about the meaning of dreams is a glorious waste of time as nothing can be known, and no influence from those likely imaginary universe can reach us.

Possible or a great imagination one. There are other realms and dimensions. People in the past probably knew more about this then we do.

"yes, it's possible."

However, that being said, it's also possible that some dreams are not.

How can we tell which are/are not?

therein lies the challenge.

and could some dreams be POST-cognitive? (yes)
and some dreams be of the "realm we live in" ... (yes)

These are intriguiing notions, and so far, there are no clear-cut answers which definitly point to "correct".

(JMHO)

good luck
