I wanted to set up a gathering of people but I don't know of any place I can go to, or use for that sort of thing. Its just a casual meet up of friends.

Most restaurants (even the inexpensive ones) will have a room you can reserve for friends.. Of course, you have to order a meal.
Also, most hotels (once again, even the inexpensive ones) will have a party room you can rent.
Time to get out the yellow pages..

Why not see if you can block book a small restaurant? Or they may have a side dining room.

If you or any of your friends have a clubhouse in an apartment complex, those work well and are either free or very cheap! (Usually free w/ a refundable deposit)
