Could you expand on your question a bit so we can answer it? Or are you just venting?

*sigh*

What type of pains? Please leave more info about what is going on with you. I have had 3 children so I could possibly help you determine if they are real contractions or not but it would be hard to do so with such little information, But I'll do my best.
Real contractions will cause your entire stomach to become very hard and they should last about 1 minute in length sometimes more depending on its strength. Braxton Hicks contractions can be painful but they are more of a quick tightening feeling that only last a few seconds at a time and can come fast, BH contrax also do not make your whole belly hard. Real contractions will hurt far more than these and when they are regulated ( 5mins apart or less) is when you should go to the hospital. If your contractions are in fact real and are regular, then by all means, go to the hospital, all they can do at first is to monitor you and check you for any dilation. You are considered full term so you can safely have your baby now. Try laying down and drink lots of water so you stay hydrated and relax!! that is the most important thing right now because stress isn't good for you nor the baby, it can raise their heart rate and cause them to go into fetal distress. Best of Luck to you and congrats on your baby. Merry Christmas.

38 weeks is painful, everythign about pregnancy towards the end is painful.

If your doctor says wait, wait. If you're sure he's wrong, run in to the ER and have them check you.

Typically though, you want to spend as much of your labor at home as you safely can. It makes it easier on you in the long run.

@ 38 wks I felt as though my whole body was being torn apart..if your doc says wait then I guess it's wait!! Go to the ER if your pains get unbearable or your water breaks..if your having contractions then time them...6 minutes or closer and you should head to the hospital!! GOOD LUCK

Depends on the pain for a doctor to do anything. Braxton hicks, doc won't really care.
