So i have two questions The odometer and the tac are picky on my 97 dodge stratus es. They only work after awhile of driving the car. This a wiring problem? Also i think my belts are slipping off track. They squeel when the heaters running (blower only works on max) or has been when im stationary. When i rev the engine sounds like they grind and then stop when i get to high enough rpm's. Whats goin on? thanks in advance

A couple of questions has the car every been flooded. You know like underwater in a flood or partially under water?
Do your regularly wash your car's motor and all under the hood to keep it clean?

If so you have a bunch of corrided connections either under the hood or under the dash or both. The connections are going to have to be cleaned! First before you do anything else. It will most likely cure your tac and heater blower problems.

The odometer and tac sound either like you have a loose connection, partially broke wire or corrided connection. But if your speedometer is working it mostly likely is cold solder joints. Or you could have two separate problems. Could be a cold solder joint in the odometer and a loose of corrided connection in the tac wiring.

As for the heater blower only working on MAX air it can be a couple of things.; 1. the blower switch itself. or 2. the blower motor.

Now here is the bad one: your belts. They could just be loose and need adjusting or replacing (if have automatic tensioners and belts have stretched too much)
Or it could be your air condtioning air compressor. Most newer cars with high pressure AC systems are designed for the heater and AC compressor to work in conjunction with each other. The compressor is alway cycling off and on while the heater is running.
One way to check that is to unplug your air compressor (diconnect the wires from it at the air compressor) at the plug on the air compressor. Then run your car with the heater on. If the belts are not squeeling it is going to be your air compressor.

Help that helped you.

OK now for an eduacated answer.

Loose belts, Get them replaced. THey squeal because when the Heater is on to remove moisture during defrost, your A/C comes on. and higher RPM will remedy this.
The odometer and Tach? or is it the Odometer and Speedometer. The tach is electric and the Speedo is also but the two have few if any common components. Since you say they don't work for a while I woul have the sending unit checked.
I believe there is a unit on the Transmission on a 97....
Maybe Dodgeman can clarify.

Check your belts tension you may not be turning the alternator or generator fast enough do to slippage (they might need to be replaced?) this would cause low voltage while running and could be causing misreading of the tac but you also may have a problem with the cable that drives the tac and odometer. Check the voltage with a voltmeter across the battery with the engin running should be 13.5 to 14.5 + volts. The cable that drives the
odometer usually comes off the transmission.
