I have a knee injury that I am uncertain about what it is exactly.
I wore bad running shoes for years and damaged only my right knee now. I have stopped running due to intense pain in my lower right knee cap each time I use my legs stretenously, like when I land hard on it or run a distance.
What do you think I have done to my knee? Do you think I have worn away cartilage, torn a ligament, or what maybe? Do you think this can heal on its own or will i need surgery to fix it?

You cannot get an online diagnosis. The only people who can diagnose you are an MD, an NP or a PA and then only after an in-person examination. The person who says their "best guess" is osteoarthritis is doing exactly that---GUESSING. And this is NOT the guess I would make. The questions you are asking cannot be answered without an exam and imaging. You absolutely need to be seen by your primary care provider! Your doctor will refer you to an orthopedic surgeon if it seems prudent and appropriate.

Please don't ask for online diagnoses in the future. You can be swayed by what seems like good information given to you by a non-health care professional and do further harm to yourself.

Hi Lucine H...........it's Victoria L!!!!!!!!! Like everyone says.....you really won't know WHAT is wrong w/your knee until you go see an ortho doc. When my knee blew up i went to the doc and he drained it which consists of sticking a L O N G needle IN the knee (they deaden it first) and then it sucks all this fluid out..........and that felt wonderful at first but it didn't last long. So the next dr. i went to ordered an MRI right away and i ended up having torn ligaments from wear and tear so i had to have microscopic surgery and it didn't hurt at all. It's just a minor daytime surgery...........where they go in through 2 little holes and clean up the torn ligaments. I'm fine now except that i have to have a total hip replacement and i'm in such bad pain like NEVER before.................wish me luck.....i have surgery on Jan. 11th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My best guess is that you have developed osteoarthritis. You need to see a doctor. In the meantime, try taking advil, or another anti-inflammatory medication.

Its also possible you just have some loose cartilage floating around in there. Good luck.

I would definitely make an appt. with a specialist. Knees are pretty important to walking and functioning so I wouldn't chance it by trying to treat w/o professional advise.

There is no way anyone can even guess what is going on in your knee without seeing any x-rays. You need to see a doc to find out what is going on.

You REALLY need to see a doctor.

WHY risk your ability to walk by asking people on Yahoo Questions?

Please see a doctor immediately.
