(think of the Cranes on Passions), and the characters are written as being rich so as to leave them the freedom of a life of leisure. This way we can focus primarily on their romantic lives.

Soaps are a fantasy land for most. Just like the storylines, they are so out there that most ppl just laugh about some of the ridiculous scenes bc that is what's entertaining, to me at least.
My hubby always laughs about that.

Because they are FAKE!
Why can they come back three years later with a new face after they drove off a cliff and their head fell off and then start having affairs with their ex-wife's ex-boyfriend's niece's cousin?

It is a fantasy television show. It is designed to hold your interest. Who would watch if the characters were fat, ugly, and poor?

Well they're usually for stay at home women. Meaning that they must appeal to them. Women like money, and they like drama.
