My husband took my favorite plastic coffee mug to work with him and apparently left coffee in it until it went yucky (think a week or better). Now my mug smells really weird and it makes anything put in it have a funky taste. How can I get the smell/taste out of the mug. Tried washing it several times, nothing has worked so far.

A mild solution of bleach and water will usually get rid of the stains and smell when coffee's sat too long in a mug. Let it sit for a few hours, rinse thoroughly, and repeat if necessary. Naturally, you have to wash the mug in very hot, soapy water and rinse thoroughly before using.

Oh, and next time, give your husband that ancient Quick-shop mug to take to work with him. You know, the cup with half an inch of cinnamon mocha that you accidentally left in the back seat of your car in August heat for about a month.

Yep, that's it. . .the one that made a skunk pass out after just one whiff!

I saw some stuff at Bed, Bath and Beyond that removes the smell and stains from plastic mugs, storage containers etc.

Try putting just a little dab of bleach in it with a little bit of dish liquid and very, very hot water and let it soak until the water is luke warm ,then wash it out and dry it immediatly with a hand towel and it should be fine. Good Luck.

A couple of things you can try: Baking soda and water, soak it for a while before washing. Also try bleach(diluted in water) I am sure it is safe, I bleach my own once a week.

There are coffee pot cleaning detergents that are sold in pour-spout boxes that address that exact problem. Some brands are Urnex and Clean-Caf. They do the pots and they do the cups.

here is a link to one of many
