I have 4 children, for the last 3 I was induced. And actually the last one I asked the doctor if I could be induced. If your doctor agrees to induce you they will set a day for you to go in. My first induction they put a little tablet up on my cervix to ripen it and to get it to start dilating. Then they gave me another tablet and started the IV meds. I was lucky and it worked right away. Sometimes they start the induction and it doesn't work right away. So they have to start over. They had to do that with my 3rd child. They re-did it the next day. Ask your doctor. If everything is ok, then I am sure they wouldn't have a problem. Good luck.

Im kind of in a situation like yours. My husband works out of town for weeks at a time and I have 3 boys and no relatives nearby and really no one to watchmy kids at all. So Im planning on asking my doctor about being induced around 38 weeks or so. I was induced with my second child.just because that is what the doctor chose to do, and it wasnt bad. I just went into the hospital they hooked me up to the IV and gave me the pitocin through that which gave me contractions and I had my son after one hour of that. It didnt take long at all. Im sure for some it takes longer. I would so much rather go into labor naturally, but I have to make plans for this one. Otherwise I dont know what I will do with my kids and I dont want to be alone.

If your son is in daycare, consider asking one of the teachers if they would be willing to help watch your son when you go into labor (whether it is induced or not). Some of the teachers at our daycare do this - they already have a good relationship with the child and family, and have found it works really well. Also, if there is a parent of a child at daycare or a neighbor you like and trust, ask if they would be willing to help out if you are in a bind. I think you will find that most parents would sympathize with your situation - everyone thinks "what if that was me" - and if they can't help you directly, they may know someone who can.
Good luck!

I'm pregnant with my first but I'm expecting to be induced. The doctor already agreed to it, and unless I go into labor early, my husband is only going to be home for 2 weeks around my due date and I'd like him to not only be here but to be able to spend time with his child before he has to leave again. Try this link for more info.

I had to get induced due to pre-eclampsia (toxima is another name). After they started the meds for inducing my son started going crazy in my stomach so they had to take me off and wait to try again. Hours after they put me back on, they broke my water.
