The pill isnt the same as the morning after pill. The morning after pill, or plan b, is an emergency contraceptive that you take within 24 hours of unplanned sexual intercourse to avoid and unwated pregnancy from setting in.
The pill, or birth control, is a series of pills you take to regulate and control your cycle so you dont ovuate, or allow an ovum to implant in your uterus.
Theres nothing scary about going on the pill. They ask you how often you have sex, and what you use to avoid pregnancy, and why you want to go on the pill, this is just to get an idea of you lifestyle, what plan will work best, and if you need testing for STDs, theyre not trying to judge you.
Then you will have a papsmear, which is uncomfortable, but lasts only a matter of minutes. They use metal spec's to hold your vagina open while they swab the cervix with a cotton wand. It doesnt hurt. Its just unpleasant. Its only you and the docotor, no one else will be there, or come in. Its over in no time.
Then they will set you up with the best birth control plan for you, and the best doseage.
It will take about three months for the pill to be completely effective, and you will know it is effective because you are taking it every day at the SAME TIME each day, and because your doctor has told you that your body is regulating properly to the hormones.
For every woman who is on the pill for a year, one in onehundred become pregnant, so make sur eyou take it correctly every single day, and at the same time every day. This keeps it working as it should, and report any break through bleeding or spotting to your doctor after the three month mark, this can mean your dosage needs tweeked.
You have nothing to be afraid of. This visit will be much better than any visit you'd make to a doctor with a baby growing in you. So suck it up and get it over with so you can avoid that.

It will alot less embarassing to talk to a doctor about going on the birth control pill rather then telling your parents you are pregnant. Be responsible... if you are having sex at 16 you had better double up on the protection. Go on the pill and continue to use a condom.

Well done for being responsible enough to go on the pill,When you see your doctor don't be embarrass as your doctor hears this request every day,Just tell him that you want to go on the pill he will ask you a few questions so that he knows what type of pill to prescribe for you,He will probably ask you questions about your monthly cycle (your periods)and then he will give you a prescription for you to go to the pharmacy sign on the back as you are 16 and wont have to pay good luck and once again Well done.

do not use the morning after pill as protection... that is for emergencies only... birth control is what you need... if you not mature enough to ask you doctor for something like that then your obviously not mature enough to have sex... grow up and ask her fast before you have a child... you know what more embarrassing than asking your doctor (that handles that stuff every day) is having a child at 16 years old... there will be a lot of people talking behind your back.

My advice is to just go in and ask matter-of-fact.
I'm active and I want to be sure I'm not going to get pregnant.
On your list of things to be embarrassed about this seems to be at least one tick below getting naked with someone and making funny noises (maybe/maybe not).
Being adult enough to have sex means being adult enough to take responsibility for the consequences of what we do.
BTW, just because you are on the pill doesn't mean you should stop using other barrier protection. STDs are out there you both should be protecting yourselves unless you are 1000% (yes one thousand percent) sure you are monogomous.
best,
cez

You need to get on the pill AND use protection...because NOTHING is 100%...all you need to ask your doctor is what your options are about birth control and you are interested in starting birth control...they are there to HELP you NOT judge you or make fun of you...don't be afraid to talk to the doctors. :-) Like I always say...the doctors are your best bet
