well i guess they can go to the playoffs..but not the cup..theyre nothing at all without jagr..they proved it last year in first round of playoffs losing 4 games to none to devils. If jagr were to get injured..forget it

Jagr is the reason they will never win a Stanley Cup in my opinion. He has changed since the mid 90's in Pittsburgh (where I am at). He has become a big baby. I lost all respect for him when he was the captain of the Penguins. Several times he left games when the Pens really needed him because he was upset with refs and other things going on in the game. Plus he has like 14 pairs of skates because he has a problem with all of them. Understandbly an NHLer has more than 1 pair for quick use if their main pair has a problem such as a broken or loose blade but come on 14 pair? You make over 5 million and 10 million before the lockout get a custom pair made Jags! Unless Jagr has a good captain such as when he had Lemieux the Rangers are doomed to just be good and never great with Jaromir. Sorry Rangers fans we Pens and Caps fans have been there done that.

Hell of an offensive threat though.

the question was "do they have a shot" of being in the Cup - and from the looks of things that would mean beating Buffalo or Atlanta to get to the Cup. That could happen, judging from the recent close losses to those two teams where the Rangers were definitely not playing their best. So yes.

The Rangers look decent this year with some added scoring punch (Shanahan). But the full package is still not there. With the "new" NHL teams need a mobile defence that can move the puck, hence Sabres and Ducks. Really no mystery why they are doing so well. Mobile Defence.

CANT BEAT THE DUCK ? Rangers beat Ducks on the west coast trip. (All the while it was the backup goalie in the net.) I say this year if Rangers are lucky , they will go to second round of play off. A better team than last year with the addition of Shanahan.

I don't think they're strong enough defensively. Hopefully general manager Glen Sather will address this and make a trade for a solid defensive defenseman. Or talk Brian Leetch out of retirement. And Mark Messier too while they're at it. Maybe Brad Park can still skate a time or two around the rink!

Wow - I had to look up "Harry Howell"! Gordie-Howe-like; he played like 26 seasons from '52 to '76. Yeah - bring him back too!!!

No cup for the Rangers this year, though they might make the playoffs. I'll put my money on Buffalo.

what u all fail to realize is that jagr isnt the only offensive threat anymore. shanny, straka, nylander, prucha are all able to carry their own. and lundqvist is a star. i agree to add a valueable D to the team (trade deadline is always good) or even better, get Brain Leetch to come back. and yes, i feel that they can overcome buffalo or ottawa in the east finals and beat the sharks or stars in the cup finals.
