I am going to purchase a home pregnancy test (First Response; if you have a better brand referral please let me know). But I went to the bathroom several times already this morning. I don't want to "waste" a test (in the event I don't have enough urine) so should I drink alot of water to help me go to the bathroom or just wait until I really feel the urge to go?
Also the directions online for First Response says that I can either urinate on the stick or do it in a cup then put the test in. Anyone have advice on which way to try?

The reason why I asked because I am not sure if I drink to much water or liquids in general if that decreases the amount of levels of the pregnancy hormone in my system.

I am not really sure--but just to be safe--wait and take the test the very first thing in the morning (I know it may hard to wait!!!!).
If you drink a bunch of water now, it will dilute your urine and possibly affect the test result. I think you are supposed to take the test in the morning b/c the levels will be accurate.
As for actually taking it--for me it's easier to pee in a cup and put the stick in that. If I tried peeing on the stick, I'd likely end up peeing on my hand!
And you can buy the store name brand for alot cheaper and they are just as accurate. You can two Walgreen brand tests (in the same box) for cheaper than an EPT test.
Good luck! I hope you get the result you want!

First Response it fine, and peeing a cup and peeing on the stick is about the same just a little. But if I remember correctly that drinking to much water would not water down the hCG. The hormone that the detect detects, but to be for sure I would hold off on the test until the next morning when you have the most amount of hCG in your urine.
Hope this helps
Good luck

You should take this test at the first time in the morning (when you get up) because at that time the urine is no alter with the food or drinks that you eat and drink, but i recommend you drink water the night before to take the test. The water doesn't change the level in the urine to detect a pregnancy, don't worry about that. Good luck and take care! ;)

The more water you drink the less hormones will be in your urine.
That is why you use your first morning urine as it is the most concentrated. It is best to wait until tomorrow morning. (Particularly as I assume you are testing early)
I did the in the cup, as it is waaaaaaaaaaaay easier. If you get urine on the wrong part you ruin the test. Just get a pack of disposable plastic cups. That is what I did.

It's usually recommended to use the test with your first morning urine because that's when the hcg concentration will be strongest. I've also used tests both ways (pee on the stick or into a cup) and I think I got a stronger result with the cup since it gets a chance to soak in better.

The best time to take the test is first thing in the morning, as first morning urine has the most concentrations of hcg. With drinking you are diluting the urine and the concentrations won't be as high.

Drink as much water as you want it won't mess up your test. By the way, they all work pretty much the same. I've bought them all at one time or another and they were all correct, so your pick is fine, or if money is a problem you should get the same results from a cheaper one.
By the way, wait until the morning...higher levels of HCG can be detected them so you're less likely to get a false reading.

I was always told that the first morning pee is the best because the hormone is stronger. But if you want to do it today I woudl get it and just wait untill you have to pee again. I would think it would be like a drug test, if your urine is too diluted it does not work.
good luck and I hope the results are what you want

Try to take the test 1st thing in the morning. You will need to urinate and your hormone levels will be at their highest so you will get the most accurate reading. Good luck!

Don't drink lots of water prior to taking the test. This can dilute the sample and potentially give a false negative. I found it hard to pee on the stick so I used a little bathroom Dixie cup to dip.
