Well, first of all, 'heroine' is the female counterpart to hero. You mean heroin.
Second... Not all drug users become addicted nor does it always ruin their lives. There have been documented cases of those who try it once, survive, and never try it again. And though the theories of 'gateway drugs' and escalation to 'worse' classes of drugs have much support, not all cases of drug use proceed as such. Some heroin users are first time drug users.
Third... Why start? There are lots of reasons that very person to person. Collectively, a good portion of them are already presented in your answers, so I won't bore you with more reading.

People don't JUST take heroin. You'd have to already be a junkie for other hardcore drugs (coke, speed) and even already shoot these up instead of the more popular snorting or smoking it(heroin can be smoked too but is more potent if injected). Once you've already injected any drug, it's easy to switch. Many addicts will try anything new just to experiment a different high, and heroin is still the strongest drug you can find on the streets. Lastly, there is a form of mysticism given to the drug by some people who had tried it. Actor John Belushi (who ironically died of an overdose of heroin) said after he tried that the high was like "kissing God". A statement like that's got to make you at least wonder.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper then Oxycontin. Some people start on Oxy's and quickly cannot afford them as their bodies require more to get that high. Heroin is very, very cheap. Most of the time these people snort it until finally addiction gets the best of them and they don't care about the social stigma of injection anymore. Even when we (firefighters/paramedics) have just administered the drug Narcan awaking these people from their drug induced near death experiences, they still more often then not say that they do not have a drug problem.

Why do people do many of the things that they do to harm their body? In many cases is is a temporary escape from an otherwise mundane reality. Also, users rarely notice the negative ramifications of their actions, and see no reason to quit. SOme people find that their perception, once sedated, changes dramatically, triggering different neurons and synapses in the brain, causing an alienated and skewed version of their reality.

They are put under social pressure to take heroin by those who will profit from it. Also, young people like to try things out and will not heed warnings that things are bad for them - witness tobacco and alcohol as well as drugs. The trouble is that "experiment" quickly turns to addiction, as you point out.

Folks start out of curiosity, continue because it feels good, and as you say, become addicted rather quickly (in some cases instantly).

Some poeple blame it on other people and some people blame it on stress... some may say their own kids pushed them to start up and others may start because they think they will look cool with other people doing.. some even do it because they want to hang out with certain people and they cant hang out with them becuase they arent into drugs yet and so they start... I dont see any point in DRUGS... it does nothing but ruins families... relationships.. lives and so on...

Like why people start smoking, it looks cool and all your friends do it. I started smoking in 1983. My friends did it. The only reason I didn't become a druggie is because my mother used to point them out in the street, probably scared me.

I knew a woman whose brother died of a heroin overdose. He was a musician and wanted to be cool in the in crowd. He ended up overdosing in an abandoned apartment in the East Village, NYC, and his so called friends panicked and left him to die without calling an ambulance.

It eases the pain, whatever their particular pain is.
A lot of addicts start by snorting it, and there's a misconception that you can't get addicted if you snort it.
