7 months ago my boyfriend and i leased an apartment together. well, he's quick to remind me that HE leased it and i'm just listed as living there. but whatever, i'm so unhappy living with him and i've realized that shacking up doesn't work for me. so, last week, we sorta kinda broke up and i went out and found my own apt. now... should i feel guilty about making moves that will make me more happy? he's trying to guilt me into staying in the apartment. but like i said, i'm not happy living with him. does this make me selfish & heartless because i don't want to stick out the lease with him?

Heartless and selfish? I don't think so. Knowing when to get out of a situation that isn't good for you? I'd say yes, and, to quote from a very obscure old song, "Knowing when to leave can be the smartest thing that anyone can learn."

It seems to me that your boyfriend is something of a manipulator and I also wonder if it's not at least a bit of a control issue on his part.

When he tries to guilt you, tell him something like, "Guilt is a foreign country, and my passport's not in order. Quit trying to send me someplace I don't want to go."

Good luck, and take pride in being strong enough to stand up for yourself and make your own decisions.

What you need to remember is that a relationship is about what makes you happy. You gave it a shot and realized that the situation doesn't work for you. Do not feel guilty. If he cared about you, that should not have ever been said. Be strong girl. You run your own life not him.

GOTTA DO WHAT YA GOTTA DO
by boyfriend tried to pull that (this is my house) cause he paid the majority of the rent. so i figured why am i caring for a house that's not even mine? and moved out. which is funny now cause he has no electricity and the place is a regular dump. See that? mind what you say and what goes around comes around

If things are not working out, then you had to move out.... I do not believe you are being selfish and heartless by sitcking him with the lease.... Well actually it's his lease anyhow and not yours....
