Um, maybe because it's not a sport? Tryouts don't make something a sport, you know. Would you call American Idol a sport? I didn't think so.

Definition of sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature
Cheerleading fits the defintion, beacause there are cheerleading competitions, but the whole point of cheerleading (to get the crowd to cheer) is pointless. if they wanted to cheer they would.
In my opinion, you already have dance and gymnastics, so cheerleading is an unnesessary sport (nonetheless - a sport)

Chearleading is not a sport.
Anybody who goes to a sporting event could call themself a cheerleader if they wanted to.
When it comes down to Cheerleading, the so called "Cheerleaders" aren't even leading the cheers. It is other fans who create the chants and lead the crowd.

Cheerleading is as much of a sport as is beer pong. There are tryouts because too many little hoes want to do the football and basketball team. They have to narrow it down somehow.

It is a sport. Cheerleaders get hurt more than anyone else. In the state of North Carolina we as cheerleaders need to have a physical as if we were football players. If it is not a sport than why do we need to get a physical? Cheerleading is harder than any other sport. If you don't think so, you try competitive cheering. It is hard as hell, and I bet you anything you probably couyldn't do half the **** they do.

maybe the people who say it isn't a sport have never seen a real / good cheerleading team. the things i've seen on tv are insane- you definitely have to be athletic to do them. next time someone tells you it's not a sport, ask them to throw a person in the air, form a pyramid, etc.

Yeah well they have band and choir tryouts to... does that make them sports.
Cheerleading at the High School level is not a sport. At the college level, then you may have a point. The copetitive stunts at the college level require talent and athletic ability, but that Rah Rah crap in high school only counts for spirit points!
