yeah, obviously, one's illegal and the other's not... but I never hear of people getting "stoned" rage, but there are drunken rages, no accidents due to under the influence of weed, no fights caused by getting high, more like a "let's get together and feel alright"; so what's the deal?

The government could never tax it so they wont legalize it.

But it is the same principle: Alcohol was illegal in the 1920s, but people still drank it and eventually they made it legal again.

Marijuana was legal in the 1930s, then they made it illegal. People still do it. There are no direct deaths caused by it. why wont they legalize it?

They could never tax it because you can grow it.

It unfortunately is simply about the legality of it. I think that there have been a few people who have had "weed rage" or an accident because they were high. Also, pleople do fight over drugs, albeit because they are illegal. I'm not saying that those people are the norm; they would probably have had the accident or gotten "outraged" anyway but it fits with anti-weed people's schtick. I would agree that it is less-harmful than alcohol but because it cannot be easily regulated, it will never be legal here. That is the unfortunate truth. If there was a way to regulate its growth, then maybe. However, that's a maybe.

I don't know but I agree with you. No one has ever died because of the effects of smoking marijuana. Yet there are hundreds of alcohol related deaths every year in just about every form, weather it be self induced, acts of rage or car accidents. I for one am all about the legalization of marijuana because i feel that its effects outweigh its negatives by far. Marijuana is used medically to treat symptoms of more than 1 disease, My aunt recently passed away from cancer and marijuana was the ONLY thing that helped give her any relief from her pain, Doctors would pump her full of morphine and she was like a zombie and she even said that it didn't help her like a single joint could. If your wondering, Yes, I do smoke marijuana on a regular basis, about 3 times a week and no, this does not effect my opinion as to way it should be accepted. My decision is based solely on the fact that there are no reported cases of someone going crazy and harming another or robbing someone or place or any acts of violence simply because they smoked pot. Alcohol, when used in large amounts or over a long period of time can result in so many negative things, it isn't even funny.

You hit it on the nose one's illegal and the other is not. But they have legalized a certain amount of marijuana in a few states now. I do agree w/ you though alcohol has more negative effects on people who drink while marijuana is a laided back drug. It is very natural and has been around since the beginning of time. If society studied this drug more also they would realize it had more usefulness than just an enhancement to get high this could make paper products, clothes, medical uses, and probably cut back on some effects of global warming.

Because we live in the United States. Some countries , Amsterdam for example, have legalized marijuana and you can smoke it at the hash bars. There is no taboo. I for one do not smoke pot but know people that do. I would rather have a conversation with someone that smoked a joint to relax after work than someone that has had 4 martini's and is a slobbering drunk. I grew up with an alcololic father and he was disgusting and embarrassing. Thank god not abusive.
I remember going to Europe as a teen and seeing 12 yr olds ride up on their bikes to a bar and having a small glass of beer and leaving. They do not have to sneak out and have a party and trash someones house, it is unheard of , it is there for the asking so the problems of underage drinking do not exist. Therefore, where something is legal , no one really cares about it, so legalize the pot, cuz it is no big deal. And if my arthritis meds go up in price, I may even consider pot, same effect and cheaper lol

There are some motives, and maximum are historic. it is, alcohol has traditionally been ideal to white subculture; marijuana hasn't. you will see a generational shift in attitudes in route of the acceptability of pot, yet maximum those who're now in potential nonetheless actually referred to their father and mom ingesting, no longer smoking. yet another excuse depending in historic previous is that pot became ideal in minority cultures (imagine Jamaica, South Africa, Mexico) and seen to be a danger to white mores. Ever listen of the propaganda movie "Reefer insanity"? a reliable racist subtext runs throughout the time of it and different anti pot hype from the turn of the century; there became a mass move to criminalize it for the duration of and after Prohibition (of alcohol) that referred to it and the creation of non-white subculture (e.g., jazz) as a real danger. See the links lower than for more desirable reading. I completely agree that pot is a a lot less risky substance than alcohol (or tobacco, for that remember); yet no matter if it really is any convenience, I are also expecting that in the subsequent few a lengthy time period there'll be a real revolution in attitudes and regulations coping with it.

I've often wondered this myself. The only thing I can think of is that marijuana has long been 'demonized' by propaganda that suggests it is a gateway drug that will lead the used into a quagmire of sin and degradation (oh...let's go NOW...) as if alcohol hasn't done so much MORE damage to people, and their families.

I worked as a waitress on the graveyard shift to put myself through school. I remember thinking that I wished ALL my customers were quiet, ravenous stoners rather than the rowdy, rude drunks who would mess the place up and puke all over the parking lot......

Isn't THAT the irony of the century? If you look into it alcohol is the most addictive drug there is, even over heroin and coke while marijuana is the LEAST. I honestly don't care if adults choose to screw themselves up as long as they don't take anyone else down with them, but I still don't want anyone driving on weed then I do on booze.

Alcohol a lot of it anway is, and was, brewed distilled w/e in America! Goverment gets tax revenue! That & we tried Prohibition a long time ago and w/o a booze being sold legally the mafia brought it in from Canada & made their own moonshine! Kind of like DIYers do with pot!

It is just the matter of legal vs non- legal. I know more alcoholics than I do pot-oholics. I have not smoked pot for 15 years just because of random drug testing at my employment. They don't test for alcohol, not fair.
I do wish that it was legal, then surely it would be more accepted than booze. I do miss my reefer.
