My sister is always talking about how she would love to live in Canada because things are better there. There is less crime and everyone gets free health care blah blah blah etc. etc. etc. . . . Is this true? I've heard it from other places too but i've never looked into it. Does Canada have free health care for their citizens? How does it work? Why doesn't the US have something like that? Is it easier there because they have a smaller population?

They do in fact have socialized medicine. The pros are obvious, everyone has insurance and no one is left behind in the respect. The thing you don't hear about as often is how it takes 6 months to have a surgery. Why do you think everyone comes to the U.S. if they need specialized treatment? Because competition in the medical field is so fierce here in the U.S. that it makes the doctors that much better because they want to beat the guy next to them. This doesn't happen in Canada or other places with socialized medicine because they all get paid the same no matter how good they are. Also, it takes quite a chunk of tax money to support an entire country's health care plan. It helps that Canada is a resource rich country and there are only about 50 million people.

So does everyone have insurance, yes. Are their doctors as good as ours, no. Where do they go to get emergency or specialized treatment...U.S.A. It is good for the common cold, but not for cancer or other illnesses which require the best treatment facilities and specialized medicine in the world. Thanks and have a nice day.

they have higher taxes to pay for it. but as far as I can tell, it's still far cheaper than what we pay for health care.

(for example many people pay several hundred dollars for health insurance a month, while most in Canada don't pay that much a month extra for the service)

now, for non-emergency procedures, there often is a slight wait of a couple of weeks to a month, from what I've heard, but often here in the U.S. they have to schedule you in for those anyway and they are often a couple of weeks away in my own experiences...

and of course there are long waits in both countries for organ transplant lists, which is often what people complain about the Canadian system, but it's a long wait in the U.S. too...

so it's slightly slower, at about half to a quarter the price... from the Canadians I've talked too...

some rich Canadians come down here if they want the surgeries immediately... but that seems to be only a very small minority of the population...

We have socialized medical care that we pay for by our taxes. If I were to get sick I could see any Doctor I wanted to and be referred to first class specialists. All Hospital care or operation. I would pay nothing. Although our taxes are higher we don`t have to take out a second mortgage if we get sick. We also have strict gun control therefore less crime.

Doctors are anal-retentive twerps who think they are owed something for sacrificing growing up to get rich. College is slavery and creates that kind of bitterness, so they lie about health care costs being prohibitive and let people die. Disease is like crime, so the commonwealth should provide care just like it provides police protection.

CANADA HAS UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE THE SAME AS EUROPE.
IT IS PAID FOR WITH TAXES.
WE AMERICANS PAY ENOUGH TAXES TO ALSO HAVE THIS ; HOWEVER H.M.O.'S ARE GETTING SO MUCH MONEY FROM SO MANY PEOPLE (POLITICIANS) THAT THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN MY LIFETIME. ANYONE WHO THINKS OUR REPRESENTATIVES HAVE OUR WELFARE AT HEART IS VERY NAIVE.
