You need to spend more money than that if you want it for gaming. But for all purpose, the XPS series from Dell seems to go well with gamers.

Get a copy of PC Gamer magazine. There may be an equivalent magazine in the UK.

I believe that every month they list three PCs that they could build and it indicates the price (in US dollars) of the components that they would use (low, medium, andhigh-end versions). They also have pretty good articles about current hardware that is available. They are NOT just reviews of the latest games.

Another suggestion is to look at the games that you want to run on that system, then see what the games "recommended" requirements are...don't use the "minimum" requirements.

I would not buy top of the line, as it will cost more. Go to http://www.newegg.com/ for fast deleivery and good prices. If you build your own machine, you will get more bang for your buck...but you will have to do more work, and be a little tech savvy.
As far as soundcards.....don't get a sound card. Pick up a digital usb headset. I don't even have a soundcard in my machine....it's all usb. Plantronics dsp500 is an amazing hadset and mic boom for about 60$ (far less than you would spend on a sound card and speakers...better sound too)

For gaming preformance, you will want a good video card (will likley require addtional power , likley a 550v power supply) and 2 gigs or ram will help alot with faster load times.
As for processor, a 2.6 to 3.4 should be sufficient.

You will need to purchase:
1) PC Case
2) Power Supply (that is compatible with your motherboard)
3) Motherboard
4) Processor w/fan
5) Accessories: CD/DVD writer/player, keyboard, mouse, monitor, sound card, floppy drive(maybe not needed)
6) Operating System
7) Memory: depends on motherboard you are purchasing
8) Hard Drive

while i do know much i dont know the exchange rate of Euro so i cant say for sure but a good gaming computer can be found or built for $1500 US anything below that will be fine but may have problems running real heavy games like F.E.A.R. and future games i would also wait for the vista
if you want specs check this out and take some ideas from it iv searched its one of the best gaming computers around it even already has the quadcore

Yikes! You might want to wait until after the new year. Wait until pricing goes down after Vista systems arrive and more QuadCore systems arrive to the market. Gaming can be expensive, but you need a solid CPU, memory, and graphics card.

SLI video cards are hot. get a motherboard that has dual core, runs a MINIMUM 800 MHZ RAM, and has SLI slot for your video. Now that you have spent your money on a motherboard and video card, you might want to get a decent hard drive, too
(250GB are reasonable).

I am waiting for the AMD quad CPU (middle of 2007) myself, at which time I will build my next upgrade. I build all my own computers and have 4 at this time.

if you are coming here for your answers you are a n00b, and perhaps you shouldnt build, since you are too lazy to do your own research, and want others to figure it out for you!
