I am purchasing a black iPod video for Christmas and have obviously heard about their vunerability to scratching. I was wondering if this only occurs when in a pocket with keys, mobile etc or even when in a pocket on it's own. If so, should I consider purchasing protective coverings or cases or not? Your experiences please? Thank you.

All iPods are vulnerable to scratches so it is a very good idea to keep it in a protective case (preferably silicon) at all times. There is a plethora of cases to choose from ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous and I suggest you buy a mid-priced case (£15-£30) to complement your new piece of tech. Cases are available from any store that sells iPods and (unfortunately) market stalls.

If, for some reason, you scratch your iPod, there are various ways of removing the scratches (though not completely). Just post another question if this occurs.

Merry Christmas and happy listening/viewing.

I have a white 30gb I left the front plastic on for as long as I could (3 months) and I keep it in an Incase holder.

The front hasn't got any scratches (touch wood) but the back looks like I've rubbed it with sandpaper - I haven't, I swear!

I keep it in the case most of the time and have NEVER put it unprotected in my pocket, so I have no idea how it got that way (unless it's when I occasionally remove it from the case which is suede lined!)

I suggest you buy a case and handle it very gently as it is really prone to scratching.

My case is the leather Incase on on Apple's site.

It is always a good idea to have a protective cover even if it is not in your pocket with keys. I keep mine in my coat pocket with nothing else, and I still have a cover.

Think of it this way, would you rather buy a £10 cover or a new ipod when yours gets scratched!

Consider getting a protective case and covering. I have a black one also and bought the hard case for it with a clear plastic protective sheet for the screen. I only use the protective casings when carrying it to and from work. I mean, you want to enjoy it without the casings too!

I would definitely purchase a case covering to go with your ipod. They are easy to scratch. I have the ipod nano, and my screen has never scratched because I have a case with it.

Happy Holidays!

Apple do no longer make money out of effortless to scratch reflects, the circumstances are not to any extent further surely licensed and hence thousands of persons cause them to with out paying a penny. cellphones, transportable video games consols, sat nav, all have an same problem. in case you want intense visability then you choose a sparkling plastic. in case your ipod is scratcherd you need to nevertheless be able to be certain the exhibit obviously! when you're concerned aboute cosmetics then per chance you need to leave it at abode and carry a image of it round to electrify the ladies/adult males

dont put it in a pocket with anything it will deffinentally scratch. i had a black ipod video since march and its full loaded of scratches just from normal wear. i very much strongly suggest that you get a case for it. if you get one of the new colored nanos which i recently bought they hardly scratch.
