Hi Angelo!
I have noticed that while many Italian-Americans are so overtly proud of their heritage, they also don't make the effort to learn their language. I'm a fluent speaker, although not of Italian ancestry. That's how I got my start in radio, and I can tell them for certain that it's the easiest language I ever learned in my life. That's after learning Cherokee, which is my language and the absolute most difficult one I've come across. To us, language equals culture, and if you don't speak your language, how can you know your culture? You can't.
Most Italian-Americans also don't seem to be aware of the fact that the dialect they do use isn't technically Italian, something I find annoying. There's only one standard, and that's the standard Italian used on TV, newspapers, radio and schools. Also, a couple of the dialects are actually separate languages.
Another thing is the fact that Italy is such a diverse nation. As you may know (this is to clarify for others on here,) there are more than 150 nationalities and groups found in Italy alone! Very diverse.
I don't think they know enough about their culture to be proud of it. And if they really knew enough about it, they wouldn't feel the need to be overtly proud. That inner pride should suffice. In fact, I believe cultural pride should always be subtle. It's more dignified that way.

I have to write that I absolutely love Italians! I love their culture and food. I've gone to several operas and was entertained like there was no tomorrow! And I heard that some of you Italian men love black women! I know Robert DeNiro does! But all and all, you Italian men have more balls then any other man on this planet and I say please hurry up and get back into politics more so the money can be flowing again! I need an Italian mayor in my state again! (New Jersey) That's when things were awesome!

I don't think so. But perhaps I am prejudice.
My favorite niece is married to an Italian and I love the Roman history. It gave rise to much of what we have in the world today.
Just so you know I am Irish.
