Well if he wants to stay in the ole USofA he'll have to learn the language obviously, and he'll need to memorize all sorts of useless facts that most Americans today don't know but expect immigrants to. He will also have to fill out a lot of paperwork which will take eons to complete. Since an alien race who comes here would likely be of superior intelligence, he might be able to get a decent job, but of course could never start his own business.

Stay? We have been here off and on for eons. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

I expect we'd be just as willing to learn theirs and get the best linguists and scientists in the world on the job.
However, this looks like a thinly veiled reference to human immigrants and the Prime minister's recent statement that foreign nationals coming to this country should learn to speak the language.
I think the chance of learning things from an extra-terrestrial who'd crossed interstellar distances would be enormous. That's not so much the case with some human immigrant from eastern europe or wherever wanting free health care and subsisting on state provided booze and cigarettes.

I wouldn't send them away. Most likely, an alien from outerspace is 10x more intelligent than the human race and probably knows our languages.
And if he doesn't speak any of our languages, I wouldn't send him away. I'd probably warn him that there are a lot of mean people who will backstab him and possibly do cruel things on him.

Well, the thought of peaceful aliens is a good one. If they arrived, and it was up to me, I don't think I would let them "stay", unless it was in some sort of place designed for them out in the desert or something.

The aliens will be able to communicate with us in our own languages, they don't generally uses vocal speech like you and me when communicating with each other but rely more on telepathy.
They are already living here with us, and have co-existed here since around 1972.

Depends. If they were friendly then sure they can stay. And as far as language, it would be best for us to learn one anothers language.

it depends...
If they want to be friends, let them be so.
but if the alien(s) was innocent, i think the next moment he would be in some lab tied up for expeimentation which will make his friends fight with us to reclaim him...
ps-i have written the above answer on the assumption that the aliens have a gender and have body parts so that it can be tied up.

Send us away? How? We've been coming here for thousands of years! We are here to watch. We are to advanced for you to comprehend our thinking. By the way, we don't speak, we communicate through telepathy.

If they're smart enough to travel a gazillion miles, I'd let them do whatever they wanted to do. I might wanna learn THEIR language!
