If you are asking about love from the heart and not the loins, then:
Friendship is with someone whose companionship you enjoy for more than 20 minutes, Love is with someone whose companionship you makes you feel whole.

Just to sum it up, while we all know what friendship and love is all about, my opinion about the difference is that the intimacy and the togetherness in what we call love, which is way more stronger than in a friendship. But just as coco-mo said there is a huge difference in the way you love certain peoples/things. As for the similarities, honesty and sincerity play a huge part. And of course should always be there for your lover/friends.

l can't answer for everyone but for myself..love is a deeper affectionate feeling between two or more individuals..i can love my parents or my dog but not be IN love with them..its just an affection I feel towards them..my friends are the same way..i can love my best friend as a brother..but not be IN love with him..i care about him alot to the point that I will cry along with him when he gets his heart broken by his g/f but I am not IN love with him to the point where I want to be his girfriend..friendship to me is a bonding of two or more people in your life that you will go through good and bad experiences with..whereas love is an affection deeper than friendship and can be felt by two individuals more profoundly because it is an intimate feeling you feel inside yourself..but then thats just me..I am sure others have their own definitions..many blessings~

I've been married for 20years..the difference between love and friendship sort of blends into one after that length of time...Each characteristic enhances the other.
