Hiccups are basically a spasm of the diaphragm. Putting sugar on a finger or pacifier does work, but I'd hesitate to give that if a baby hasn't started solids yet.

What we do is either stand the baby up or let her lay out, giving her tummy a chance to stretch and regain control of her diaphragm. Raise her arms over her head and try some different positions. They'll stop soon.

GRIPE WATER - for quick relief of baby's minor stomach upsets such as Colic, Cramps, Sour Stomach and Hiccups, especially during teething.

Newborn Infant 1/2 teaspoon (2.5mL)

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

I have a baby, he gets hiccups all the time. It's normal for this to happen with babies. You mostly just wait them out, but burping the baby helps, since the hiccups often result from excess gas.

My baby is 7 weeks. He gets the hiccups daily. They last a long time and he crys while he has them. What I do is give him my pinky to suck on or his binki. Sucking will help take there mind off of the hiccups and wont be so bad for them. Try singing to her or playing. As far as making them go away theres not much you can do. Conrats to you on your new grandbaby! You must be in heaven ;-)

I get the hiccups a lot and so did both of my babys. I wouldn't stress on it they will just go away after a while and not happen as much. You might check and see if the are getting after they eat. maybe you need to change bottles.

If the baby is breast feeding, mom could nurse and that would get rid of it right away, for some reason the sucking got rid of it...either have the baby suck on your finger, a pacifier....or do nothing at all, it doesn't hurt them, just more of a nuisance.
