I'm a proud liberal and I work 55 hours a week. Also, all of the liberals I know work, as well. And regarding the few welfare recipients I've actually known, I doubt that any of them were registered voters. If anything, it seems to me that most voters (Democratic and Republican alike) have jobs and a decent educational background, whereas most welfare recipients have neither and seldom vote.

Thank you for not saying all Conservatives do this.
You are a voice of reason.
A piece of advice, ignore the wannabe conservatives that make sweeping statements like what you mentioned. I ignore the same wanna be liberals that make ridiculous statements about conservatives.

When conservatives talk about welfare, they seem to ignore the fact that corporate welfare is as much of a drain on the economy are personal welfare. They have no problem with the fact that blue states, like California and New York, get just $0.81 back for each dollar they pay in to the federal budget, while red states like North Dakota, for example, which voted for Bush 63%-36%, takes in $2.03 for every dollar it pays into the federal budget. That's fine, as long as poor, single mothers who got fired because their child was sick one day too many can't collect.
All of the liberals I know work and/or have a steady income that is not sucking money out of federal coffers. The only SSDI recipient I know is a Republican.

I am conservative and I do not say this. I think it is a serious misrepresentation of the facts and an unnecessary slander of those with different viewpoints designed purely to inhibit intelligent debate on issues. I know many liberals and most work every bit as hard as I do. My interactions with people both liberal and conservative are vastly different in the real world than they are here on Yahoo Answers. I honestly believe that people are willing to say things on line that they would never say publicly. This is due to anonymous nature and lack of real world ramification for holding extreme opinions. I also believe the majority of ridiculous contentions on the Internet arise from a desire to incite discourse rather than any informed opinion or desire for open communication.

It's the perfect argument against a party you don't like. Blanket statements, no matter how far off they may be, actually work. It's crazy how many people buy into them, same with political ads (fortunately, that's long over now).

I think you are clumping things into catigories. I consider myself a liberal. I am only now going to colledge ( I graduated in 97) I don't vote... BUT... I am a millionare, and yes, I earned it all on my own. I now own two houses in South East asia, I am living in one in the Philippines, where I am going to school. So, I say stop catigorizing and stop working 55 hours a week, and get your lazy brain working on something that will earn you something you can be proud of.

I doubt if there are many welfare recipients on line. I'm a conservative & I have no idea why some people make such absurd claims.

Good point. It's always easier to generalize than to look at an issue in any depth. It's easier to demonize a group or a cause when you don't have look someone in the eyes. As a society, we do it all the time - especially when we're at war. To be fair, it goes both ways - especially on YA.

My guess is either it's kind of like the closeted homosexual thing of calling others homos to take the suspicion off of themselves since they're really the ones on welfare, or it's simply because they don't have anything intelligent to say.

Oh come on now, we don't think your all on welfare.
Seriously, I am a staunch conservative and I certainly do not
believe that. But it is true that 3 out of 4 people on welfare are
of the Liberal persuasion. That's 75 percent by the way, and I
found that out for free.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a nice day.
Thank you very much, while you're up!!!!

I don't. I think they are part of the base of your party though! we have spent more on social programs that we have spent on the military and national defense. We have spent more on both of the above than we have on the US debt>
