Does anyone know why I would have to manually force my computer to shut down? I have to do this if it freezes and no key presses or any kind work.

Also....sometimes if I do control/alt/delete b/c a program is running and says not responding. I have had to do this when the computer seems to be acting slow or hanging up.

It doesn't happen daily but just wondered if anyone had any insight? If it was a virus I would probably know by it doing this more frequently or if I send out emails...others would let me know I sent a bad file/email or virus, correct?

Thanks

It's not a virus. If it were a virus or some other spyware programs you have to do it daily.Sometimes a program crashes due to some disk sector errors and needs force quit. There is nothing to worry about this as this is pretty normal.Take my advise always shut down your computer even if you have to do it in the forced way.If you fail to shut down and turn off the computer by just opening the switch then that will cause bad sectors on your computer hard disk.If many bad sectors join then that will render your hard disk useless.

Increase your virtual memory and reboot. This should fix your problem. Also, go to majorgeeks.com and get TuneXP. It has a faster shutdown option you can use. Shutting down turns drivers and the .dll library off.

I would try defragmenting the system if you haven't done one or it has been a while since you have. If you are running Win2000 or WinXp just right click the my computer icon and select manage and when the window opens select disk defragmenter.

There is probably a problem with the program that is not responding. Check to see if there is an updated version you can install.

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
