That's a really unfair thing to do. Monkeys are intelligent animals - keeping one in a cage is horrible. They should be running wild - hence the term "wild animals." A wild animal will never be tame. They have not been bred for docility and love towards humans like animals such as dogs have, they have been bred through natural selection. This means they have instincts designed to allow them to edvade capture and stay alive.

Do you really think that Indian monkeys will have been raised in captivity? No, they won't have. No matter what the seller tells you, they most likely have been hunted from the wild. They will either be captured adults, vicious terrified animals who having once lived completely free surrounded by their family group, are now locked in a cage or being draped around some random person's neck in an alien environment without the company of fellow monkeys. Or they will be babies whose mother's were shot for the purpose of harvesting their children and selling them onto ignorant tourists. How is that fair?

Why do you want this animal? Is it as a status symbol to make you look terribly cool? It doesn't; it makes you look like an idiot. Is it because you love monkeys? Show real love and let them live free without fear or restaint. Is it because you want control over an animal that is considered wild? Get a therapist and solve your controlling issues. Please just leave monkeys where they should be. Don't support the foul trade that slaughters our closest relatives in the animal kingdom and rips them from the life they love for meat and money.

The same stands for any wild animal. They aren't meant to be kept as status symbols or little ornaments. Wild animals should be roaming out far away from humans, proud beautiful and free. Don't take a dump on their dignity by calling them pets and patting them on the head.

If you want a beautiful intelligent pet, what's wrong with a special breed of cat or dog that it is within your means to provide for properly? You don't need elaborate enclosures for them, or specialist diets, and you don't need to try and smuggle them into the country. A monkey will need a specialist vet, and a huge enclosure with so much environmental enrichment. They'll need a certain diet and specific temperatures to keep them alive. They'll need company. They'll need more than you can offer. An extremely rare gorgeous breed of dog or cat? They need a blanket in the corner, a foodbowl and some Purina, a waterbowl and some love and attention each day.

Getting a monkey or a wild animal as a pet is not a very good idea. First of all, notice that you said wild animal. No wild animal will ever be tame and should only be cared for by trained experienced handlers. In some places you have to obtain a license to have monkies or other exotic animals. My best advice would be to research the laws in your area to see if it is even legal and if it is, start doing your research. Find a group in your area that deals with wild animals and get some experience first. Its never good to start caring for a monkey when all you've had to care for in the past is a dog. Monkies are like human babies, except with sharp teeth.
