It doesnt bother me, but she should try to learn. My mom has been living here longer then I have and still refuses to speak English, but oh does she understand it. Anyway, if u live in a bilingual community that also speaks her language I dont see why she cant leave the house unnatended. If not, then maybe going out on her own will help improve her language skills. She's not a child you know, how do u think tourist survive in foreign countries. They use their hands and the few speaking skills they know. Ur wife can do the same. Honestly is her choice. If she wants to be stuck in the house all day then thats her problem

What do you mean you never let her out of the house without you? Do you have her in a cage or something. And to answer your question yes I am bothered when people don't learn the language of the country they are in, it is laziness and a lack of respect in my opinion. What is preventing her from learning the language?

You don't let her out of the house without you? That bothers me more than the language barrier.

Actually, I think you really treat her kind of bad. You should let her learn english, it's not her life if you don't let her leave the house on her own. She can't have "real" friends ( such with whom you talk about everything, not only weather) nor can she lead a normal life. You should at least ask her if she doesn't want to change it. I think I couldn't live anywhere when I can't talk to the people there...

It would bother me if I went into a store and your non english speaking wife was serving me.
I use to work in Customer Service in San Francisco, we have a lot of tourist. A lot of them do not speak english, very use to it.

Doesnt bother me at all. Although if she lives in an english speaking country then she should make an effort to learn the language otherwise its rude.

It would bother me in that situation, as I feel I would not be in full communication with her. It would be like a wall between us. People should be able to communicate directly with each other.

That doesn't bother me nearly as much as her rancid flatulence.
Thanks for the 2 points.

It doesn’t bother me, but maybe you could help her learn English so people don’t discriminate against her, or you for that matter.
Just a thought.
(BTW what language does she speak?)
