It is a diabetes medication. If you have any questions AT ALL, you should be directing them toward the prescribing physician, not to us! We have no clue why he or she might have prescribed it for you. ASK YOUR DOCTOR.

Metfomin is used to treat diabetes or PCOS You should not have left the doctors office without first having the doc tell you what the medication is and what it is for and the side effects etc. Metformin. Since your doc didn't give you enough info about what to expect you need to call him back and speak to his nurse so she can talk to the doc and get back to you with his answers. Next time do not leave the docs office without a good understanding of what it is going on and what to expect.

its typically used in type 2 diabetics to lower blood sugar. some doctors use diabetic medications for polycystic ovary disease (it kinda sounds like you might be having problems getting pregnant from the comment you made about kids)
you should talk to a doc or pharmacist about it though if you have that little of an understanding of what it is for

Did your Dr. not explain the medication-how about the pharmacy where you got the prescribtion filled! What was your apt. at dr. for? Is it an antibiotic? The Dr. is not going to give you any meds that make you sterile-how old are you?

If you have PCOS, your doctor has prescribed this in order to balance your blood sugar better. It has no effect on fertility.
