I have been TTC for 3 months. I am on cycle day 39, 16 DPO. What could cause a "LONG" luteal phase other than luteal cysts? My luteal phase is 14 days with irregular cycles. (My BBT charts look typical, and are very acurate along with EWCM, positive OPK, and cervical position @ CD 22.)

Corpus luteum cysts are the main cause of extended luteal phases but another less frequent cause is that the corpus luteum did not produce high enough amounts of progesterone after ovulation. It is the sudden drop in prog. that brings on menses and if prog. wasn't high enough then your body can't have a withdrawl bleed. It's most likely a cyst though so just try to wait it out for at least 21 days past ovulation--your period will probably have come by then and if not give your dr a call. One other very very remote possibility that you should at least keep in mind--a ectopic pregnancy often does not produce high enough amounts of hcg to be detected by home tests--if you have any pain see your dr. Good luck!!

If you're sixteen DPO that signifies that you're simplest approximately two days overdue, so provide your self a different three-four days earlier than checking out once more. HCG phases double each couple of days so should you ARE pregnant you could be much more likely to get a + outcomes. Good success. My hubby and I are going to be attempting once more this Spring.
