"Mine" by Robert McCammon - a psycho ex-t#rrorist hippie, a kidnapping, an adultery, and a determined mother who pursues the kidnapper personally. Violence done and aggressively countered by women.
"Billy" by Whitley Strieber. A repulsive, depraved pedophile goes after a cute little twelve-year-old boy and, after many episodes not for the squeamish, the pedophile is direly and satisfyingly punished. (No rape here, I don't think we'd want to see that, but some heavy-duty psychological horror.)
Any book by Thomas Harris.

"American Psycho," by Bret Easton Ellis, is a great book. If you want something less thoughtful but faster-paced, try "Intensity" by Dean Koontz.
