It really depends on several factors such as location and academic field. Both private and public universities can be good, but sometimes private universities have a better reputation than public ones. For example, Stanford has a better reputation than UCLA; however, this does not mean that UCLA is not a great university. In fact, it's one of the top universities in the country. Some universities are better in some specific fields than others. For example, George Washington University has a top law school and international affairs program, but when it comes to engineering or computer science, the University of Maryland or Virginia Tech may be better choices.

I went to a private collage and graduated, I have dropped out all but one public university I have attended. The private school tended to care more and offered smaller class sizes. I felt I learned more important information, had more contact time with my instructors, and was provided with more outside learning resources.

It really dosen't matter. There are probably less bad private universities, but this is just a matter of opion.

WELL, DEPENS ON THE FIELD OF STUDY, BUT I LIKE MORE PRIVATE ONES, BECAUSE MOST OF BEST ONES UNIVERSITIES IN US ARE PRIVATE.
