Breastfeeding has helped me lose weight so far. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks after delivery, and my stomach is already flat (almost exactly like before). It's because the action of the baby at the breast stimulates a hormone called Oxytocin (the natural version of Pitocin, a contraction-causing chemical usually given after delivery to help the uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size) to be released, which will help the uterus shrink down, and eliminates the "poochy mommy belly" look.

Also, breastfeeding burns between 500 and 1000 calories extra a day, did you know breastfeeding mothers are recommended to consume as much as they did while pregnant, plus 300 or 500 calories??

Also, breastfeeding helps the breast tissue to contract too, not just the uterus. It helps keep them in shape. Breastfeeding does not cause saggy boobies, pregnancy is what changes them.

These are the things I would tell my girlfriend, if she thought her main interest was to maintain her beautiful body...

I would also tell her, how beautiful breastfeeding is, and how it makes her feel like her body is complete, it is mature, it is serving its purpose. Of course it will not always look perky, tight and sinewy like it did when she was prepubescent. But there is such beauty in a mature form, in a body that has given life.

First of all she should be thinking about the welfare of the baby and being breatfed is always best. When it comes to her beautiful body however, she will lose her baby weight quicker and her menstrual cycle will come later and in addition, it is less likely that she will become pregnant even though it should not be used as a birth control method. My son is 6 months now but when I took him to visit my office staff at a month and a half, no one could believe I just gave birth. That is because I breastfed. I even lost more weight after the pregnancy that what I weight before I was pregnant and I dont even work out.

Tell your girlfriend that breastfeeding makes you lose baby weight quicker because it takes a extra 500 calories to make and feed the baby. Plus I know a number of women who did not breastfeed and they still got saggy, stretch marks, non plump breasts. The reason why is because your milk still comes in regardless if you breastfeed or not. So it can stretch out them anyway.

Not only will breast feeding will help her maintain her figure after giving birth, but also it will give the baby the best chance at a healthy life. The mother's breast milk is the best milk for a newborn and anything else pales in comparison.

If I were a guy with a girlfriend who is that uncaring, selfish, and conceited, she would be looking for a new boyfriend, after I took her to court and won custody of the child because she is an unfit mother.

Tell your girlfriend that she can maintain her beautiful body even breastfeed... I know this from an Indonesian model who does breastfeed and still has a very beautiful body, she said to breastfeed is an invest for her children. Besides health advantages, breastfeed can create intimate relationship... anyway... for what TOO beautiful body since she has already had a husband (you) who don't mind about it? would she like to have a beautiful body and a dumb child?

I am not breastfeeding because I'm taking medication that could pass through to baby through the milk. I lost all of my pregnancy weight within one month of birth- but am still exercising to try and get my body back to its normal "shape" at three months after birth. My breasts are slightly less firm than before pregnancy, but this may or may not be a result of not breastfeeding.
My OB and my child's pediatrician recommend breastfeeding, but also say that formula-feeding is just fine! It is your girlfriend's body, and her decision. If she does decide to formula feed, it will help you to bond with baby because you can share in feeding time.

I think it is up to the women. I have nursed my 3 children and I plan on nursing the one I am currently expecting. Here are some details you may not want.... My boobs are no longer perky. They sag. I am only 25 and my breasts have already headed south. Hubby and I joke that when he rubs my tummy he is playing with my nipples. If she wants to keep her body then let her. She will have stretch marks and will have loose skin. Perhaps when she sees that she will change her mind. You don't want her to not want to feed the baby when it is hungry because she is resentful of having to nurse do you? BUT.. to answer your question... it helps to reduce the risk of breast cancer and it helps her body heal faster from giving birth. Also she will lose the weight she gains with the baby faster if she breast feeds. Good luck

Good luck convincing her to breastfeed....it will be good for you all...And, props to you for supporting it....A lot of guys don't bc they feel left out since they don't get to feed, the baby also.

I would have to say that that is her decision. If she doesn't then she won't. You can't force her to breastfed, It is a very personal decision. If she is worried about her breasts I hate to tell her, but pregnancy messes them up anyway. Breastfeeding won';t do that much more demage. If you feel really strong about her breastfeeding, get plenty of information for her to read and learn as much as you can. Be prepared to help and support her when she does have the baby. It is important for you to support her. Good luck on being a dad.
