As Nas' new album is entitled, "Hip Hop is Dead." It's definitely not the same. There is no substance. It seems everyone is after the almighty dollar and not in it for the love of hip hop.

majority of hip hop music today is useless because all they want to talk about is what they got, i.e. cars, bling, etc. I don't know who in their right mind cares about all that? especially broke people like myself. I'm not hating, but rap about meaningful things so I can relate or someone else can. Jay Z new album is full of "what he got" music and I was so disappointed in him--him bieng the king and all. Old school hip hop had meaning, and great messges displayed. They rap about everything that mattered or what we all can relate to such as love, friendship, society culture, politics, etc. back then it all made sense, and what is sad is that I'm young and appreciate old school music more than the generation of music I grew up to. I don't even watch videos no more because I am sick of seeing the same video chicks, cars, etc. its just ridiculous...

I think alot of it is too commercialized. Some focus too much on material things instead of sending out a positive message. alot of people in general cant afford the things that some rappers brag or rap about. If you ask me, alot of it does not make any sense. Now people are rapping to nursery rhymes? There arent that many original songs out these days
