I don't know, but they sure are not my team. If there is a "American's Team" and there isn't it only makes sense it would be the Washington Redskins.

Although I am a lifelong Cowboy fan and love them like a member of my family, I understand many people could care less about them. They are "America's Team" because of their success in the 1970s. A widespread following not just in Dallas, but throughout the country created the appearance that much of America followed the Boys. The nickname is credited with a Pittsburgh sports commentator after the Boys lost in the '78 Superbowl. The phrase "America's Team" according to Wikipedia was also the title of the team's 1979 highlight film.

Nope, but now that we all speak English and there is a general consensus as to the meaning of "America," and "The Americas" generally, I have no problem with a term that affirms that this population is Native (uppercase) to these lands. You are not a Native American because you were born in this country. In that case, you would only be a native-born American. And "American" is just a shorthand of saying a citizen of the United States of America. You are only Native American if you descend from the indigenous population. Deal with it!

It's not a self imposed title Beldin you self imposed one and only!
The Cowboys will always be America's Team, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. They did not name themselves that so all the haters that said that are wrong.

Well to everyone who said the Cowboys gave themselves the nick-name, you're wrong.
The Cowboys will always be considered America's Team, get over it.

It started in the 70s and I cannot remember who put it out there but I am guessing it was Dallas' marketing group. I don't like the Cowboys but you have to hand it to them in that they do everything in a big way. They definitely set the standard for NFL cheerleaders.

They named themselves "America's Team" and got it to stick. Just like in the late 70's Pittsburgh was "The City of Champions"

this is from the newpapers that are trying to make them special, I agree they are not Americas team, this is determined by the things purchased by the public, like hats , coats, banners and that type of thing. it would seem that the raiders sell more item than the cowboys , then the 49ers would be second.
have a great day
