Only end up drawing the dole?

No. Maybe for a period after they graduate, as I did, but this is largely because jobs in the arts are more diverse and require further training and research, more so perhaps than other degree subjects like Business or Medicine.
I am now a college teacher and practising artist through preseverence and hard work.

Research has shown that the majority of graduates in all subjects go on to higher paying careers than non graduates.

Very true, very true, just like most philosophy students end up thinking deep thoughts about being on the dole

Yes, unless they get another job. Only a tiny percentage of artists make a living from art.

Unless you are talking about commercial art such as graphic or web design.
