to cut a long story short, i am in the middle of sueing my previous landlord. back in may i was left with out any gas in the property for a full week while he was out of the country sunning himself on holiday....anyway when he came back was pretty pissedoff by this time... so i voiced my opinion due to this he said he wouldnt be newing my next 6 months for being unreasonable i was only in the property 8 months . i decorated it nice while i was their, he would comment how nice it looked every time he came to the property... yet he got all high and mighty and told me to put it back how it was when i moved in(cutting his nose off to spite his face id say).. anyway he said i wouldnt be getting my deposit back either , and has come up with invoices for jobs that did not even exist, i dont want this person to get the better of me in the court and although im not guilty for any wwrong doings to his property he has made up i feel like giving in ..should i carry this through to end

the second poster is correct. when talking gas whose responibility was it, need to check your lease. Since it was summer, it couldn't be heating oil.

It is the right of every landlord to chose whether or not they chose to renew the lease.

As far as these "invoices" go, he would have to prove that you caused the original damage in the first place. You will have to wait and see how he itemizes the damage to the property when you move out. I suggest taking photos of the empty apartment after you have cleaned it.

Ok, lets start with the Gas. Is this a utility that was your responsibility? Or are you talking propane? Since it was May, it was warm, so you wouldnt need it for heat. Probably just for cooking or hot water. Need more details.

As for him not renewing your contract, that is his right. If you decorated without his written permission, he has every right to demand it be put back in the condition it was when you moved in, or charge you to put it back. (deposit)
As for jobs that "didnt exist". Explain further. What kind of jobs? There is really not alot to help you with because of the sketchy details you provided.

Did he and you perform a move out walk through when you left the unit? If so, what does it say about work needing to be done? If you did and nothing was stated, then he does not have the right to charge you for work done. If you did not have a move out walk through, then it comes down to his word against yours.

I would contact an attorney or legal aide in your area to see what your specific options are.
