My sister states that her opinion on Christmas is to buy her kids whatever they want. i strongly disagree. She says that she knows it's the birth of Jesus Christ, but kids should get what they want. I ask her what about her credit she said that is not a priority right now, her childrens Christmas is what matters. She also feels that I should get my child everything he writes on a list. I think she is tripping.

HA! Get them everything they want? That is crazy. We get them a few things they want, a few things they need, and a new pair of PJs(tradition). Before their birthdays or Christmas comes, they also have to go through their old toys and give many of them to charity with the understanding that many kids don't have anything. If you don't teach them anything about the value of giving, they will grow up expecting to be given everything. Your sister is a dumb @ss.

I wouldn't agree with your sister because i know that you can get into a lot of debt doing something like that. My mom buys a few expensive gifts that put in debt and then she spends the next few years trying to catch up. My b-day is on christmas and I could get whatever I ask for, but I don't ask because I think there's more to it than the presents. I'd be happy with a christmas card even if it's homemade. I think people need to get off the whole christmas=presents thing and stop buying into all the holiday specials. I've seen kids get everything they wanted and they play with it for a few weeks and then it disappears under the bed. I wouldn't try so hard to get the most presents in numbers but the most meaningful.

Trippin' would be right. I have strong convictions about this subject as well. Last year I was laid off right? I couldn't afford X-mas presents. Fortunately my kids weren't upset(3 teens) cause they have had many an extravagant X-mas when they were growing up. They understand and respect what the day is all about, I'm proud of that. I was angry because my family didn't think to help out and buy them something though. I mean because that is what Christ's birth is about: giving to others, not yourself. Buying your own kids everything is easy, buying others gifts, who have nothing, now that's a challenge and shows whether you have any real character or not. Hey, you reap what you sow: their kids will never know how to celebrate X-mas and they will always have to buy their love and respect ha, ha , ha

I think the most important gift you can give your children is to teach them the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus birth and the gift of sharing. She should teach them that giving of yourself to others is just as important or more important than what you get. Otherwise, they will grow up thinking that Christmas is all about how many gifts you get. That's not a good life lesson. Maybe you could convince her to "adopt" a child or family for Christmas to help a poor child have a Christmas...my parents taught me that way and I've never forgotten it.

i disagree with ur sister. i may not have any experience with kids but i have a lot of experience with siblngs. for children, it is necessary to understand the real meaning of christmas that God sent Jesus to the Earth to help ppl understand the evils of greed hatred etc. and get rid of these evils. if ur kids want nything, it's not that u get it for them as it's christmas and christmas is meant for giving gifts. don't u buy what they wish for in other times of the year?

Trying to get the kids what they want is good for the Santa aspect, but she should try to keep the Spirit of Christmas alive, too, so they don't get greedy.

You are right. She is not teaching her kids the right way to handle money and gift giving. The rule is never buy what you can't afford even if it is for your children.
