Can somebody please tell me why on earth I am sitting here answering questions when I should be studying for my next art project?

Because you're not getting any inspiration for the project. Close your eyes for a bit and sit in the quiet and see what comes into your head and go with it.
That or you just don't like art.

It's a displacement activity. You're just trying to put off the moment by acting busy with some completely pointless tast because you are reluctant to study.
Wish I could tell you how to stop.

Probably you are bore or tired. Getting some stress of the neck is best by surfing the net. And answering question probably is your best hobby.Hence the answer

Avoidance Activity.....most of us do it.
Tidy my room, make up my bed, iron my clothes, sweep the yard, walk the dog, practice the piano, write a couple of letters
and all because I dont want to pay a few bills.
