I had mine out about 2 months after my first baby. It was great. It doesn't hurt anymore. I am happy. Also.. side effects.. you NEVER become constipated. (Except when I get pregnant.. then I know). Also you have to eat fatty foods close to a bathroom. Cuz when it is time to go... it is time to GO... RUN!!! Other than that.. it is great!

I have not had this done personally, but my best friend had her gall bladder taken out about 2 weeks ago. She said that it was the easiest surgery ever! The doctors did the surgery laproscopic and she did not even have to have narcotic pain meds after surgery. She was back to doing normal activities after about 3 days. It's an outpatient surgery and now she feels great. You would have never known that she had any type of surgery! I know that surgery is scary, but in all reality with today's technology, it's virtually pain free anymore, except big heart surgeries or brain surgeries. You should have this surgery because you will feel much better afterwards. My friends says, "I can eat stuff now that I never could because it would make me sick and I would have heartburn from hell". She is so happy she did it! She actually put off the surgery for 2 years because she was scared, but now she wished she would have done it a long time ago!
I hope this helps!

I'm dealing with the same issue right now! I'm 31 weeks. I went to the ER once with the pain, and since I haven't suffered too much they are working with me on controlling it until after I deliver. I was miserable and would have let them do anything to get that thing out of me, but I've been following a strict low-fat/no-fat diet and taking 2 Zantac daily to help with the indigestion/heartburn and it has been much better! The Dr.'s did reassure me though that this is actually a fairly common procedure to do during a woman's pregnancy and that if I did need to have it removed before the baby is out, it was nothing I should fret about too much. Good luck to you and Congrats on the baby :)

There are two main ways they do it these days. One is to make a very small incision (about 1 inch) near your belly button, and then use instruments with a tiny camera to go in and get it. The other way, believe it or not, is to use similar instruments to go down your throat, so there's no incision at all. Of course, you'll be out for the procedure. It takes a few hours, and you'll probably go home the next day. You'll need to take it easy for a few days, but that's about it. They'll give you some pain meds, but usually it hurts very little. You will need to be careful about what you eat afterward.

My son just had this done a few months ago. It is usually an outpatient surgery now. He had to stay overnight. It is done laparascopically (sp), with 3 small incisions with only a quick stitch and bandaids to cover. Was moving fine next morning, had hydrocodone to take for a few days. Had a follow up two weeks later, and was fine to do everything he normally did. No long term effects.
